Submitted: Nov 23, 2012; Accepted: Jan 5, 2013; Published: Aug 5, 2013 Abstract: Allometric analysis of the total body clearance (Cl ), steady-state volume of distribution (V ) and B ss elimination half-life (t ) based on the literature data in fish species was performed for oxolinic acid, flumequine, 1/2 enrofloxacin. Values of Cl and V show allometric dependence on body weight but values of t can not be B ss 1/2 predicted after scaling toward body weight. Significant differences were found between allometric equations characteristic for the fish species and the homeotherm species. These results are reflectors of the differences in the level of the metabolic rate between cold-blooded and warm-blooded animal species.

Temperature-dependent in vitro antimicrobial activity of four 4-quinolones and oxytetracycline against bacteria pathogenic to fish.

The in vitro antimicrobial activities of oxolinic acid, flumequine, sarafloxacin, enrofloxacin, and oxytetracycline against strains of bacteria pathogenic to fish (Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida, atypical A. salmonicida, Vibrio salmonicida, Vibrio anguillarum, and Yersinia ruckeri) were determined at two different incubation temperatures, 4 and 15 degrees C, by a drug microdilution me...

In vitro susceptibility of the fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida to flumequine.

The activity of the fluoroquinolone flumequine was investigated against the fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida and was compared with that of oxolinic acid. Flumequine was more active than oxolinic acid in terms of its MIC against oxolinic acid-resistant isolates of A. salmonicida and was as active as oxolinic acid against susceptible isolates. In contrast to oxolinic acid, flumequine was bacte...

High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of oxolinic acid and flumequine in the live fish feed artemia.

A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analytical method for the determination of oxolinic acid and flumequine in Artemia nauplii is described. The samples were extracted and cleaned up by a solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure using SPE C18 cartridges. Oxolinic acid and flumequine were determined by reversed-phase HPLC using a mobile phase of methanol-0.1 M phosphate buffer, pH 3 (4...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Flavobacterium psychrophilum from Chilean Salmon Farms and Their Epidemiological Cut-Off Values Using Agar Dilution and Disk Diffusion Methods

Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the most important bacterial pathogen for freshwater farmed salmonids in Chile. The aims of this study were to determine the susceptibility to antimicrobials used in fish farming of Chilean isolates and to calculate their epidemiological cut-off (COWT) values. A number of 125 Chilean isolates of F. psychrophilum were isolated from reared salmonids presenting clin...
